What is the SMART Recovery Program?
Self-Management and Recovery Training conducted by Desert Parkway in Las Vegas, NV is abstinence-based group therapy that focuses on empowerment and healing from within. Daily group sessions are attended by both in-patient and out-patient participants, and are 100% confidential.
SMART Recovery is not just for substance abuse issues. It can also be used when someone is struggling with any kind of addiction including gambling, shopping, internet use, eating, and many more.
The SMART 4-Point Program
During our daily sessions, discussions are centered around the main tenets of the program, the SMART 4-Point Program. The 4 points are:
- Build and maintain MOTIVATION
- COPE with urges
- MANAGE thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
- Lead a BALANCED LIFE
The SMART Recovery Program Difference
The primary setting for the SMART Recovery Program is group therapy, but on a case-by-case basis it may also include one-on-one counseling. A Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LADC) helps the participants identify maladaptive behaviors and then, through didactic engagement, challenges them to change themselves.
In layman’s terms, SMART believes that each encounter is a teaching moment, and the SMART Recovery Program incorporates the psychological and emotional aspects of addiction recovery in addition to the physical factors.
How Does One Know If They Need the Program?
